This workshop meets Friday, August 27, 2021, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
(lunch break suggested 12noon-2pm)
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, casting with organic materials gives new life to old, unused, or broken pieces of metal clay. Students will melt scrap metal clay in a crucible, and then pour the molten metal into an organic medium to create a new jewelry component. We will spend the morning casting, and the afternoon fabricating jewelry with our favorite component. Up to three pieces may be created as time allows. Jewelry fabrication includes soldering, stone setting, and finishing. Kit fee includes all required embellishments but does not include scrap metal clay, which students should bring. You will want to bring about an oz or more of fired scrap metal clay. It can be a combination of fine or sterling, or anything you have. You can also bring unfired metal clay, we will torch fire it before casting with it, or clean scrap sterling silver or fine silver. Soldering experience is recommended, but adventurous beginners are welcome.
A kit fee of $25 will be collected by the instructor during the workshop.
This workshop is part of the Metal Clay Artists Symposium and requires purchase of the General Registration.
